The leaves are coming down!

The wild week we have just had has caused chaos in our ponds with a sudden influx of leaves coming down.  If you are not due your maintenance visit soon, it would be beneficial to try and remove as many leaves as you can.

Beautiful as the leaves look, they can cause chaos in your pond, clogging up your filtration.  By removing the leaves, this will stop them sinking to the bottom of your pond, creating a large pile of sludge at the base of your  water.  Remaining leaves in your pond can lead to increased problems in spring when all those rotted down leaves cause a spike in phosphate in your water, leading to blooms of plants such as blanket weed.

If you are struggling with removing the leaves yourself, give me a call and I can see if I can bring your maintenance visit forward.

However, despite the fact they can be a nuisance, I love autumn and think the leaves look beautiful!  Take time to enjoy this time as before we know it, the depths of winter will soon with us.
